About Witness Kakuru

In the rolling hills of Nyamatsinda village in Rushaga, Kisoro, lives a joyful 10-year-old boy named Witness Kakuru, affectionately known by his nickname Wiiti. Born on August 14th, 2015, Witness is full of energy, dreams, and the sweetest songs you’ll hear in the heart of Uganda.

Witness lives with his parents, Mucunguzi Philipo Sunengye and Sanyu Caroline, humble peasants who work hard every day to put food on the table. Despite the daily struggles of rural life, Witness wakes up each morning with a smile and an eagerness to attend Heart 2 Heart Nursery School, a beacon of hope recently built near his village.

He shares his laughter and childhood with two brothers, Akoragye Clever and Kira Happiness. Together, they turn the dirt roads of Nyamatsinda into playgrounds, where imagination replaces toys and song fills the silence of poverty.

Witness has a deep love for singing, and his favorite pastime, pretending to drive, reflects a young boy's dream of going places, of reaching heights beyond the hills of Rushaga. He may not have a toy car, but when he sings and mimics driving, you can see the spark in his eyes — the dream of one day becoming someone great.

But for now, that dream needs a helping hand.

Though he is not an orphan, Witness lives in a family that struggles to provide even the basics. His parents want the best for him, but with their limited means, they can’t afford the consistent support needed for his education, nutrition, and personal development.
