In the heart of Kamugyemanyi, a small village nestled in the rolling hills of Kisoro, Uganda, lives a bright and determined 13-year-old girl named Nyirguhigwa Peaceroza. A member of the Batwa community, Peaceroza’s journey has been anything but easy. But with your help, she can achieve her dreams and build a future filled with hope.

A Childhood of Struggles and Hope

Peaceroza lives with her father, Bararuha Mbarasaasa, and her mother, Flora Jessica, along with her two sisters, Munezero Teopista and Chimpaye Odeta. Her family, like many Batwa families, has faced generations of hardship and displacement. Before we intervened, Peaceroza and her loved ones lived in a fragile shelter made of sticks and plastic, a stark reminder of the struggles they endure daily.

Despite these challenges, Peaceroza is a joyful and passionate young girl who loves playing netball, dancing, and singing. However, accessing education was once a distant dream. Her father, suffering from a debilitating shoulder injury, is unable to work and provide for the family, making school an unattainable luxury.

A School, A Home, A Chance

Everything changed when we established Cornerstone Preparatory School near her village. This school became more than just a place of learning—it became a beacon of hope for Peaceroza and many other children in her community. Now, she can finally sit in a classroom, eager to learn, rather than worrying about where her next meal will come from or whether she will have a roof over her head.

Thanks to generous support, we were able to secure land and build homes for Peaceroza’s community, offering them stability for the first time in their lives. Yet, while Peaceroza now has a place to call home, her journey is far from complete. She needs a sponsor to ensure she remains in school, receives an education, and has the opportunity to build a future beyond the limitations of poverty.
