About Mugabe Derrick

In a quiet village nestled in the hills of Kisoro, Uganda, lives a bright and ambitious young boy named Mugabe Derrick. Affectionately called “Muuga” by those who know him best, Derrick is a 9-year-old with a heart full of dreams and a deep love for learning. He lives in Kamugyemanyi, a small Batwa community, with his parents and three older brothers. Despite the many challenges life has placed in his path, Derrick continues to shine with unwavering determination.

Derrick’s father, Mbarushimana Johnbosco, once worked tirelessly to provide for his family, but a tragic illness left him paralyzed, making it impossible for him to work. His mother, Nyirakamana Beata, does her best as a peasant farmer, but the little she earns is barely enough to meet the family's daily needs, let alone Derrick’s education. Yet, despite these hardships, Derrick dreams of a brighter future, a future where he can complete his education, uplift his family, and inspire his community.

Derrick is currently enrolled at Cornerstone Preparatory School, a small school established to serve children from nearby villages, including his own. He walks to school each day with a sparkle in his eyes, eager to soak in every lesson. He loves school, especially learning new things, and his teachers describe him as a hardworking and curious student. But his journey is not without obstacles. His parents struggle to afford school fees, books, and basic necessities. Without financial support, Derrick’s education hangs by a thread.

Beyond the classroom, Derrick has a passion for football. He spends his free time playing with his friends, dreaming of becoming a great footballer one day. But for now, his greatest goal is to stay in school, to keep learning, and to create a future filled with hope and possibilities.
